Wellbeing & Family Support
At Wollaston Primary School, we understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle for everyone in our school community. A positive approach to physical health, emotional wellbeing and mental health helps both pupils and staff to do their best and build on their achievements.
We actively promote physical and emotional health and aim to equip pupils with the understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, both now and in the future. By championing healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and emotional wellbeing, we strive to raise standards and improve pupil achievement.
How We Provide Wellbeing Support
We support the wellbeing of our children and families through:
- Emotional Literacy and Mental Health support sessions for children.
- Family support for parents and carers.
- Signposting children and families to appropriate support services, agencies and professionals outside of school.
- Sharing wellbeing information with relevant members of staff on a weekly basis.
- Friendship groups and individual support to help rebuild relationships and promote anti-bullying across the school.
- Individual interventions with our Learning Mentor or Emotional Literacy Support Assistants, covering areas such as behaviour, self-esteem, anger management, bereavement, family breakdown, anxiety and more.
- Parenting and family support offered both individually and in groups.
- Designated safe spaces where children can talk about worries or concerns in a supportive environment.
- Ongoing staff training in areas such as attachment theory, mental health, safeguarding and supporting vulnerable children.
- Year 5 and Year 6 pupils trained as mentors and members of a 'Circle of Friends' programme to support younger children.
Children Learn What They Live
- If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
- If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
- If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
- If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
- If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
- If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
- If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate.
- If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
- If children live with security, they learn to have faith.
- If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
- If children live with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find love.
Meet Our Family Support Worker
My name is Mrs Olszewska, and I am delighted to be joining Wollaston Primary School as the new Family Support Worker.
My role is all about helping children feel happy, safe and confident at school so they can enjoy learning and make the most of every day. I work closely with pupils through one-to-one sessions and small group activities, supporting them with their emotions, friendships, wellbeing and anything else that may be affecting their time in school.
I also work alongside parents and carers to offer friendly advice, early support and a listening ear whenever needed. My aim is to strengthen communication between home and school and to help families access services or guidance if things ever feel a bit overwhelming.
Most importantly, I am here to build positive relationships, support attendance and ensure every child knows they have someone they can talk to.
I am always happy to help and look forward to getting to know all our wonderful families.
